M.C. Records Scores Two Grammy Nominations

November 23, 2021- Northport NY – For the first time in the label’s 30 year history, M.C. Records has received two Grammy nominations in the same year. Both nominations are in the category of Traditional Blues and are for Kim Wilson’s Take Me Back and Guy Davis’ Be Ready When I Call You. Mark Carpentieri, president of the label said, “Wow, it is such a competitive category, the fact we have two nominations is truly a tribute to the great artists that Guy and Kim are and the records they create.” M.C. Records has eight Grammy nominations in its history.

Kim Wilson’s “Take Me Back” was released on August 21 of 2020 and marked his first release in three years and his first for M.C. Records in 17 years. The vinyl version of the record came out on February 16 of this year. Both his previous releases for M.C. Records were nominated for Grammy’s, “Smokin’ Joint” in 2001 and “Lookin’ For Trouble” in 2003.

The recording spent over three months on both the Living Blues Radio Charts and the Roots Music Report charts and has received stellar critical acclaim.

“Be Ready When I Call You” by Guy Davis, The Ambassador of the Blues, was released on June 4th of this year. It marks the fourth record that Guy and M.C. Records have released together and the 13th in his career. Guy’s previous release in 2017 with Fabrizio Poggi, “Sonny and Brownie’s Last Train” was nominated for a Grammy in 2017.

“Be Ready When I Call You” marks a creative high watermark for Guy Davis as 12 of the 13 tracks were penned by him. The release is a musical gumbo for the ears as Guy incorporates blues, folk, and Americana elements. It has been on the Living Blues Radio Chart for four months.
